Hypnosis is a natural and normal state of brain wave activity. It is a natural state in which your sub-conscious mind is very alert and your everyday conscious “chatty” mind is resting. It is a normal everyday state where focus is turned inwards and whatever going on around you becomes unimportant. It simple terms, hypnosis is a normal state of focused attention.

Hypnosis is not mind control. It is a naturally occurring state of concentration and actually a means of enhancing your control over both your mind and your body.

When does Hypnosis occur?

You go through the state of hypnosis every night as you enter sleep and every morning when you are waking, it is a likened to the state of day dreaming, those times when your mind has just wandered off, thinking about something, you are focused on where your mind is but you are still aware of the environment in which you are physically in. Those times when you drive from A to B on auto pilot, you have been aware of your surroundings but are off in your head forgetting or not paying attention to those shops, that petrol station, those lights etc, you arrive thinking wow can’t remember that, not a safe way to travel but nevertheless we have all done it from time to time, these are all normal natural states of Hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy is simply guiding the process of that focused state of mind, the use of Hypnosis in a therapeutic setting. By guiding you into a state of relaxation, hypnotherapy can help you open the door to your subconscious mind to bring about positive changes in your life.

Why does Hynotherapy Work?

The reason Hypnotherapy is so successful is that it allows us to bypass the critical factor of our conscious mind and access the subconscious mind, the storehouse of information from your life thus far. The subconscious is like a computer it holds all the memories, beliefs, programs, patterns, habits and behaviors which we have developed since birth or even before birth.

How does Hypnotherapy work?

If you imagine the subconscious like a huge computer system, where information is being stored and programmed in on a daily basis, hypnotherapy allows us to gain access to that computer, it allows us to find that file or program that is no longer wanted or that may have become corrupted over time and it allows us to go about deleting the offending file and re-install or reprogram the new instructions so that the computer will work in harmony with all other programs and will be running the software of choice.
